CHURCHES UNITED
CHURCHES UNITED REPORT (February 2021)
Silver Linings Project
Silver Linings is a permanent supportive housing project for those 55 and older. It will be built near the Bright Skye Apartments and have 36-1-bedroom units. The anticipated timeline is closing on the financials in February/March 2021, begin construction in June/July 2021, and residents moving in June/July 2022.
Overflow
Having enough overflow space has been a problem since October 2019. The New Life Center has found space for additional men. However, there still is a concern for women without accompanied children. The City of Fargo has helped to provide funding to lease a building in Moorhead which will house between 35 and 45 women. The lease runs through June 2021.
Micah’s Mission Basement Update: Churches United was approached about providing medical/respite beds. After conversations with an architect and all the legal entities that are involved in updating buildings, it was decided to turn the 3 small family rooms into medical or respite beds. The basement will be configured so there will be 3 bathrooms and 7 or 8 bedrooms. Micah’s Mission will be having a “Pay What You Can” sale as the donations area will be made smaller with the additions of the bathrooms and bedrooms. More information on that next month.

Hot Meal Service at Trinity
Churches United is looking for volunteers to help with their new meals served at Trinity Lutheran Church – Moorhead. Meals will be served on weekdays in the CLC at Trinity. This will replace the current brown bag lunch program at CU which currently serves over 100 people a day. Volunteers are needed each day from 11:30-1:30. Hot meals will be prepared at Micah's Mission and transported to Trinity. They are looking for people to help serve, greet people, bus tables, and wash dishes. Masks and other COVID-19 protocols will be in place.
Help those in need of a meal warm up and fill up by signing up to serve here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050f49aaac2ea6f85-trinity

June 2020 Update:
The following statistics are from all locations under the Churches United umbrella – The Nutritious Food Statistics were through April as not all counts were in but the rest of the statistics are through May.
Safe Shelter
Adults 108 (June) 357 (YTD)
Children 57 (June) 80 (YTD)
55+ 18 (June) 57 (YTD)
Stable Housing
Bright Sky Apts: June – 37

Individuals Served: June – 3,009 YTD – 15,940 (thru June)
Pounds of Food Distributed: June – 174,441 YTD – 545,023
On average, Churches United is serving 424 individuals per day.
Two demographics that Churches United is seeing increase within the shelter are children and seniors 55 and up. Children make up about 30% of the population they serve, while seniors 55 and up make up about 16% of the population.
OTHER NEWS: Because of the Coronavirus Pandemic, the community picnic has been cancelled. Churches United is still hoping to host the Gourmet Soup Gala in the fall. They are not sure yet when they will be able to have volunteers return. Please watch the next Informant to see if St. Mark’s will be serving supper the first Friday in August.
We are also looking for financial help during this time as well. Did you know that a $20 donation will feed a family of 5 at Micah's Mission for a night? Between the eight family rooms at Micah's Mission, we shelter, on average, around 25 kiddos every night. You can donate here: https://app.givingheartsday.org/#/charity/183
Needs List:
If you are interested in dropping off items to donate to Churches United, we ask that you reach out to Hannah M via email or can call Hannah at at 218.236.0372 ext 225. It is our goal that donors and staff members stay safe during the dropping off of donations.
